Autoregressive models for estimating phylogenetic and environmental effects: Accounting for within-species variations ArchiMer
Cornillon, Pierre-andré; Pontier, Dominique; Rochet, Marie-joelle.
Comparative methods are used to investigate the attributes of present species or higher taxa. Difficulties arise from the phylogenetic heritage: taxa are not independent and neglecting phylogenetic inertia can lead to inaccurate results. Within-species variations in life-history traits are also not negligible, but most comparative methods are not designed to take them into account. Taxa are generally described by a single value for each trait. We have developed a new model which permits the incorporation of both the phylogenetic relationships among populations and within-species variations. This is an extension of classical autoregressive models. This family of models was used to study the effect of fishing on six demographic traits measured on 77...

Comparative analysis of phylogenetic and fishing effects in life history patterns of teleost fishes ArchiMer
Rochet, Marie-joelle; Cornillon, Pierre-andré; Sabatier, Robert; Pontier, Dominique.
The effects of fishing on life history traits and life history strategies of teleost fishes are analysed by a new comparative method that splits traits into an allometric part (size effect), an autoregressive phylogenetic component, and an environmental component (fishing effect). Both intra- and inter-specific variation of age and size at maturity, fecundity, adult size and egg size are analysed by comparing 84 populations of 49 species submitted to various fishing pressures. Two axes of life history diversification are found among teleosts. One is the well-known slow-fast continuum separating short-lived and early maturing species (like Clupeiformes) From longer-lived species that mature late relative to their size and spawn larger eggs (like salmonids...

The One Health Concept: 10 Years Old and a Long Road Ahead ArchiMer
Destoumieux-garzon, Delphine; Mavingui, Patrick; Boetsch, Gilles; Boissier, Jerome; Darriet, Frederic; Duboz, Priscilla; Fritsch, Clementine; Giraudoux, Patrick; Le Roux, Frederique; Morand, Serge; Paillard, Christine; Pontier, Dominique; Sueur, Cedric; Voituron, Yann.
Over the past decade, a significant increase in the circulation of infectious agents was observed. With the spread and emergence of epizootics, zoonoses, and epidemics, the risks of pandemics became more and more critical. Human and animal health has also been threatened by antimicrobial resistance, environmental pollution, and the development of multifactorial and chronic diseases. This highlighted the increasing globalization of health risks and the importance of the human–animal–ecosystem interface in the evolution and emergence of pathogens. A better knowledge of causes and consequences of certain human activities, lifestyles, and behaviors in ecosystems is crucial for a rigorous interpretation of disease dynamics and to drive public policies. As a...
